HOW ARE YOUR ITEMS MADE?

All pieces are handcrafted and produced in small batches in our studio in Los Angeles.

Every vessel is thrown on a pottery wheel, trimmed, then dried for 3-10 days. Once dry, the vessel is bisque fired at low temperature to make the piece strong enough for handling and glazing. Once cooled, the piece is sanded, cleaned, and glazed for function. The vessel then moves to the Cone 10 gas kiln where it fires to 2345 degrees, acquiring its final strength, watertightness, and full material expression.

Due to the multi-stage and intricate nature of ceramics, each piece will vary slightly in texture, color, and size. This variation is part of the inherent beauty of handmade wares. 

WHERE CAN I PURCHASE YOUR WORK? DO YOU HAVE A PHYSICAL STOREFRONT?

Currently we are an online shop only. We also partner with a selection of wonderful stockists across the country. List coming soon.

HOW LONG AFTER I PLACE MY ORDER WILL IT SHIP?

Orders typically ship within 2-3 business days. Please allow for slight delays during busy holiday seasons.

If you need an expedited order, express shipping is available, and please don't hesitate to contact us at studio@sombra.la. We are often able to accommodate special requests.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY SOMBRA VESSEL?

Our ceramics are made of a durable high-fire stoneware, but each piece is still susceptible to damage if mishandled. To ensure the longevity of your pieces, we recommend hand-washing under running water with dish soap and a soft bristle brush. For decorative pieces, most dust and minor marks can be removed with a damp, lint-free cloth and gentle cleaner such as those by Method.

DO YOU MAKE CUSTOM ORDERS?

Yes! We are happy to do custom work for interior designers, architects, and hospitality. If you are looking for something specific please reach out to studio@sombra.la. We also have limited availability for individual commissions. More information can be found here.
